Maria describes this painting as one about freedom to be honest and open with oneself. She often sees people who can’t be alone with themselves and would spend time with others just so to avoid being alone. The abstract female figure in the painting has her back to the viewer but with her head slightly turning backwards, showing she has not fully turned away. The wings on her back also emphasizes the message in the title of the piece – sometimes you need to stand back in order to grow as a person.
