indsey Jean Mclean is an artist currently living and working in London. Mclean studied her MFA in painting at Slade School of Fine Art (2021), is a graduate of the Drawing Year from the Royal Drawing School (2014) and Glasgow School of Art BA (2013.).
McLean’s works questions the historical representation of femininity and women in painting. McLean uses reoccurring motifs such as feather boas, fans and veils - transformative objects that obscure the gaze within the works.‘I work from my imagination and the influence of memory varies. It usually is a memory of a feeling or sensation. These two little watercolours are a couple of year apart but linked by the globe pandemic. Cold Boa was made during the lock down and Feathers and Fishnets was made when I was ill with Covid. I see them similar to keeping a diary. By making watercolours during this time, it transports my memory to the feelings and events that where happening during making them.’
McLean is an internationally exhibiting artist, past exhibits include the Saatchi Gallery (UK), Cuturi Gallery (Singapore), Gallery 1969 (New York) and Gallery Wolfsen (Denmark).
