Craig McLeod
Overview
I am drawn to banal, awkward compositions I find in other peoples photographs and films.
I find using found photographs and films as my source materials creates a degree of separation between myself and the material, which frees me from any attachment to that which is portrayed within them.

Biography
My work is a reaction to what I see in contemporary society, Filtered through the lens of a third person.

Bodies of water have become a recurring theme in my work in recent years.
Natural expanses of sea, rivers and ocean, limitless powerful and foreboding, filled with mystery in their depths.
Swimming pools are of particular interest, these manmade bodies of water resonate with symbolic meaning.
Swimming pools are vessels that contain and confine the water held within them.
In dream’s swimming pools are said to represent compartments we have built to hold our emotions.
A place where we can separate and suppress them, in order to function in our daily lives.
Other themes that are relevant to the understanding of my work (and themes that are of great interest to me) are social division and gentrification.
Patterns of division in society associated with particular social groupings in terms of advantages and disadvantages, inequalities and differences, and the changes brought about when affluent groups move into areas displacing the current inhabitants.
